National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan spoke by phone today with H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar. Mr. Sullivan expressed deep appreciation for Qatar’s help securing the release of two American citizens from Afghanistan. Both sides expressed serious concern over the Taliban’s unacceptable ban on women attending university. They also discussed the humanitarian situation in Ukraine. Mr. Sullivan took the opportunity to congratulate Qatar on successfully hosting the 2022 FIFA Men’s World Cup.
