EU UNANIMOUSLY ENDORSES FINDINGS OF INVESTIGATION INTO MURDER OF DAVID DRAGIČEVIĆ, CALLS FOR MILORAD DODIK’S FULL, UNCONDITIONAL COOPERATION

NEW YORK/BRUSSELS (USIntelNews.com) – Johannes Hahn, Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, on behalf of HR/VP Mogherini demanded the “immediate and complete investigation into murder of David Dragičević,” expressing his deep concern that, despite repeated condemnation, violence and abuse of human right in Republika Srpska (one of two entities or parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina), was not only continuing, but, in some cases, had become so widespread and systematic as to “reach appalling levels of brutality,” and that all individuals suspected by the EU of involvement in planning, sponsoring, organizing or perpetrating the murder be subject to travel restrictions and freezing of assets.

He also endorsed the EU’s conclusion that Republika Srpska authorities must clarify a number of questions that remained unresolved, and that the authorities take immediate and appropriate measures to protect human rights. Johannes Hahn also noted that, while the EU had adopted groundbreaking resolutions on the issue, stronger and more coordinated efforts were needed. “Clearly, we all have to do more to prevent human rights violations, do more to punish the perpetrators and end the impunity of crimes violators,” he said.  Johannes Hahn said the issue was of the utmost seriousness, and the wider international community must step up efforts to address that grave abuse of dignity and human rights in Republika Srpska.

Speaking after the press conference, Members of the European Parliament from France, Italy, and Germany, emphasized the importance of bringing to justice those responsible for what they called a “heinous act”. M. Dantin (France) said the EU was sending a message of support to the David Dragičević´s family and the Pravda Za Davida movement, and a message to Republika Srpska that it must cooperate with the investigation, saying the EU would decide on the consequences of any failure by the Republika Srpska authorities to meet their obligations, calling the murder of David Dragičević a “medieval” crime.

On 18 March 2018, David Dragičević, a 21-year-old man, went missing in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. On 24 March, his dead body was found. Police investigation ruled the death as an accident, but David’s parents Davor Dragičević and Suzana Radanović claimed that their son was brutally murdered and that the police and prosecutor’s office are trying to cover-up the case. The result of the police investigation provoked major public uproar, and many mass protests were organized demanding the truth and justice. The public was overweeningly convinced that David Dragičević was murdered.  After the brutal police crackdown on Pravda Za Davida protesters, David’s father Davor Dragičević had to leave the country and go into hiding, because his life was in danger. David Dragičević’s parents plan to exhume their son’s body and have it reburied near Vienna. The exhumation of David Dragičević is expected to be carried out on Tuesday. David´s remains will be reburied coming Friday in Wiener Neustadt, in Austria. Wiener Neustadt is a city located south of Vienna, in the state of Lower Austria, in north-east Austria.
