Oprah Not Enough to Help Stacey Abrams Defeat Brian Kemp

Oprah Winfrey hit the campaign trail along with a slew of other Hollywood celebrities but it wasn’t enough to help Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams over the finish line. Liberal billionaire Oprah Winfrey campaigned for Stacey Abrams in Georgia, giving a racially charged speech during which she invoked slavery and lynchings. “I’m here today because of the men and because of the women who were lynched, who were humiliated, who were discriminated against, who were suppressed, who were repressed and oppressed,” Winfrey said. “I refuse to let their sacrifices be in vain,” the 64-year-old also said. Pelosi: Election About 'Restoring' Checks and Balances, What Dem Majority Means for Working Americans

While speaking on Election Night, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) stated that the election is “about restoring the Constitution’s checks and balances” and “more than anything, it’s about what a new Democratic majority will mean in the lives of hard-working Americans.” Pelosi said, “Today is more than about Democrats and Republicans. It’s about restoring the Constitution’s checks and balances to the Trump administration. It’s about stopping the GOP and Mitch McConnell’s assault on Medicare, Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, and the health care of 130 million Americans living with pre-existing medical conditions. … It’s about ending wealthy special interest free reign over Washington. But more than anything, it’s about what a new Democratic majority will mean in the lives of hard-working Americans. That’s what it’s about.” Follow Ian Hanchett on Twitter @IanHanchett (More)

Adam Schiff: The Tearing Down of Our Justice Department 'Is Going to End'

Tuesday night on MSNBC’s midterm election coverage, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) said now that Democrats control the House of Representatives, President Donald Trump will not be able to tear down of the independence of the Justice Department. Schiff said, “The chances that Bob Mueller will be able to finish his work improved for the reason that our committee and others, like the government reform committee and the judiciary committee, which under Republican leadership served as basically surrogates for the president in their efforts to batter down the Justice Department, to give the president a pretext to fire people at the Justice Department, all of that tearing down of the independence of these these intuitions, is going to end. Now that doesn’t mean that the president can’t still act in ways that are antithetical to the rule of law and the interest of justice, but it does mean we’re better able to protect our institutions and see this investigation, I hope, complete.” Follow Pam Key on Twitter @pamkeyNEN (More)
