Rep. Peter King: Time for Nancy Pelosi 'to Show Some Guts' and Make a Deal

Rep. Peter King (R-NY) on Sunday’s “The Cats Roundtable” weighed in on the ongoing partial government shutdown, calling on House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) “to show some guts” and make a deal for border wall funding. King said Democrats are being “hypocritical” by not negotiating for a border wall after they said they supported it in the past. “I have known Nancy Pelosi for quite a while — I think somewhere she would like to make a deal or she at least would consider it. I know Chuck Schumer would because I know he’s their best negotiator,” King told host John Catsimatidis. He added, “Now that [Pelosi] is in office, I think it’s going to be easier for her. She may have to allow a small bit of time to go by. But this shouldn’t go on much longer. I think she’s in a much better position now. They can’t remove her. … There comes a time when you have to show some guts in politics. I mean, you can’t always have an easy time of it. So long as Nancy Pelosi is criticizing the president she’s doing fine. But the fact is, there’s more to governing than just criticizing the opposition.”

Pelosi: Trump Fired Sessions 'to Interfere With Mueller' and 'Distract From' Losing House

During an interview aired on Thursday’s edition of CNN’s “Cuomo Primetime,” House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said President Trump fired Attorney General Jeff Sessions and replaced him with Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker to interfere with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation and the move was timed to distract from Democrats winning the House. Anchor Chris Cuomo asked, “It was no surprise that the president of the United States would try to distract from the big win for your party in the House. But when that came in the form of a big move, of firing Jeff Sessions, and putting in, as Acting AG, Mr. Whitaker, do you see this as a move, not just to distract from politics, but to interfere with the Mueller probe?” Pelosi responded, “I think the latter is the primary purpose, is to interfere with Mueller. … The timing of it is, of course, to distract from the big defeat that the president suffered in terms of our taking the House.” Follow Ian Hanchett on Twitter @IanHanchett
